Date: May 7th Wednesday

Topic/Skill: Reading (Lower Intermediate); short vs. long vowels, recognizing words on-sight

Teacher presentation: The instructor had students practice pronouncing and reading various vowel sounds, including short, long, and silent vowels in words. They read aloud from various paradigms in a phonics books. The instructor also introduced a short passage and had the students use a KWL chart to predict what the passage will be about.

Classroom management: The teacher made sure all students actively participated and spoke during the exercise.

Materials: computer, whiteboard, markers, phonics books

Student participation: The students read aloud vowel sounds written on the whiteboard and in the phonics books. They practiced correctly reading aloud short words and various vowel family paradigms (bat, cat, fat, etc.) They would focus on any vowel sounds that they struggled with because it's not in their native language.

Feedback provided: Correcting pronunciation mistakes made by students.

Lessons on teaching I learned: Use clear language, emphasize vowel sounds by exaggerating mouth shape, KWL charts are a good starting point for beginning to read a new passage.
